nymph 2020
As related to insects, a nymph is sexually immature and characterized by distinct body morphology from its future adult form. Undergoing the most extreme physical metamorphosis are “naiads,” nymphal insects born in aquatic environments, that transition for a life on land. Our Nymph builds upon this etymological legacy as a woven ode to the soft triumph of nature’s tenacious life cycle which continues in the face of its perverse destruction. Modeled after the double-walled undulation of embryonic cellular growth, its antithetical skeletal surface kindles a lifelike glow. Woven in reed, Nymph has a continuous, undulating surface defining a central, light-emitting shaft that dissipates along three hooded domes.
