Deposited by prehistoric seas and teeming with fossilized organisms, Indiana limestone has been extracted for iconic edifices and Chicago’s ‘greystones’ over the last century, defining an image of urbanity. And yet, through steady erosion and targeted demolition, it has come to comprise much of Chicago’s aggregate in the wake of urban renewal projects and ongoing gentrification. Rockhound celebrates limestone as an endemic material with the intention of redefining the notion that rarity precedes value.
